ORGANIZE MY NAIL POLISH!!!

It's time to organize the nail polish!

I have seen some cute and clever ways to organize nail polish.

So here is what I did... I gathered up my boys and headed down to Walmart.

I first did what I said I'd never do, (you know, before I had kids) and stopped in the toy department and picked them out each a toy.

Then I headed over to the kitchen section. Yes, KITCHEN.

I searched the aisles until I found a spice rack worthy of my taste.

There was nothing... BUMMER.

So, I headed over to Target, luckily it's on the right side of the road on the trip home!

I repeated the steps from above, yes another toy too. Luckily I shop cheap and find dollar surprises that my boys love.

And yet again... nothing. Nada. Double bummer!

We came home and I got online.

I saw this...

It's like the heavens opened and angels sang to me.

Luckily, my husband was taking vacation soon. So, I said, "I wanted something like this." He said, "OK."

But I also needed some other modifications.

This is what he gave me.

My modifications? Well, I wanted a spot for my nail polish remover, buffer and a few taller shelves on the bottom half for the taller nail polishes, cuticle oils and hand creams.

The exact dimensions are 22 in by 36 in. I would have liked it wider, but the space I was putting it in was actually only 25 inches wide and I didn't want to push it!

I am putting this in a closet away from heat, away from sunlight to help preserve the nail polishes from getting ruined.

The top 3 shelves are 4 inches high, the bottom shelves are 6 inches high. The buffer shelf is 3 inches high and the nail polish remover shelf is 9 inches high.

As suggested, we headed over to Lowe's. We bought three 21/32 x 2 x 8 boards, which were $4.24 each at my local store. They do give you the first two cuts free. All other cuts are $.25 each. If you don't have a way to cut it, then have them do it there.

2 pieces at 36 inches - {outer height}
6 pieces at 20 inches - {top & bottom to frame, plus 4 shelves}
1 piece at 15 inches - {smaller shelf}
1 piece at 13 inches - {diagonal board between two bottom shelves}
1 piece at 4 inches  - {buffer shelf}

My husband got a Father's Day gift which he just "had to" use for this project. It's a
Portable Pocket Hole Jig Kit, you can find one here. I agreed to it because it would give me a seamless look on the sides since the holes come from underneath, except the small diagonal piece in the bottom. We did also have to screw the small shelf in, it wasn't long enough to add a pocket hole on both sides, so we opted for just the outside frame.

 Your other option would be to pre drill holes in the sides of shelves with a drill bit and then screw the shelves to the frame.

Now... to fill it up!

What are your favorite hand creams and nail polishes?

MAGNET BOARDS!!!

I think I have an addiction!

I L.O.V.E. MAGNET BOARDS!!!

I have them all over my house!

I use them for different things...

Like in my room, it stores my makeup.

I bought this big board in a craft store in Utah that is no longer in business. {I mourned for weeks.} I painted it black, slapped on some vinyl, added some magnets to the back of my makeup and voila!

In my boys room, I hang up their pictures above their dressers.

This one is a bit smaller and I painted it black, again slapped it with vinyl and voila. I found a wooden letter{first initial of each name}, painted it and a little mirror, added in vinyl "I am a child of God", put some magnets on the back and added it to the board with their pictures.

In my dining room, I use it as decor.

This was super simple. I just painted the frame black... (I like black wood, then I can add in other things, but this gives me a continuous look) and added a sheet of scrapbook paper. You could glue it to the sheet metal, but I like the idea of changing it as my taste changes, so no glue for me. Then I found a cardboard "S" for our last name, painted it black, added some magnets and voila!

In my husbands office, He uses it for sports stuff, pics and decor.

My husband is a big BYU fan, I made this for him last year for Christmas {sorry for the glare}. I painted the frame white since the wall will be painted navy, I left the sheet metal unpainted and added a navy vinyl "Y" for the Cougs. I found some magnets {5x7}, applied pictures to the magnet sheet that can now be used to hang up some of our tickets and autographs and such.

BEST FOUNDATIONS!!!

Do you get overwhelmed when you see so many different foundations?

I stand in the beauty section of a drugstore or at the counters in the department store and I just want to run!

Looking online is not any better! But at least I'm in pjs and comfy!

So, I decided to go in search and find some of the best foundations...

Are you ready?

Get comfy and enjoy the research!
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation: Do you find that by lunch time your foundation seem to be non existent? Bobbi Brown's long-wear is a gel-based foundation that will keep your foundation in place for up to 12 hours. This foundation stays on from day to night.

Clinique Superbalanced Powder Makeup: This product is not cakey and messy. It glides onto the skin smoothly to provide a perfect complexion. The portable packaging that comes with a built-in mirror and mini-brush makes touch-ups fast and easy, however you probably won't need any since the product lasts the entire day.

L'Oreal Paris Visible Lift Serum Absolute: The liquid formula is light weight, but can be built up and lasts most of the day. If you're acne-prone and use your foundation to cover pimples, I would steer clear though -- the shimmer would highlight them more than conceal. But to even your skin tone and smooth over fine lines, this is perfect.

LancĂ´me Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation: Do you prefer your foundation to not be blotchy? YIn order to avoid this issue, you have to invest in a formula that doesn't have matte or illuminating element so that it's easier to blend into the skin. This foundation is the perfect option for makeup minimalists that just want a quick application that lasts from day to night.

Laura Geller Real Deal Foundation Stick: This foundation had a good amount of coverage. The sponge blender helps work the makeup into my skin, so it looks pretty natural. The formula is more matte than dewy. It may not be beneficial for aging skin because it may be a little more drying. If you need to even out your skin then this is a choice.

MAC Pro Longwear Foundation: This is a perfect matte foundation. Even if you have oily skin, this should still be great for your skin. It has great coverage. It will hide your imperfections very well.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation: This all-in-one foundation is an absolute steal! This foundation gives you just enough coverage to wear daily and even has SPF in it to protect your skin from the sun. If you've got acne this light-weight foundation is the perfect option and doesn't have as many ingredients that can clog up your pores.

Milani Minerals Mousse Foundation: It really does feel like mousse when you apply it. It's very light and blends extremely well. The foundation leaves your skin soft and smooth and it is pretty matte on its own.
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation: Do you wish you had the beautiful, flawless skin of those young teenagers? This foundation will give you that youthful dewy skin. It goes on super sheer but gives you enough coverage to reveal only your best assets.

Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Illuminating Powder Duo: This is the perfect solution for people who have trouble finding foundation that matches their skin tone, like me. This foundation allows you to mix your perfect shade. The brush applicator makes it easy to put on the foundation, and the caps on each of the two shades allow you to decide what shade you want more or less of for that perfect blend. It's lightweight, which is great. And it covers up any problem spots with the first sweep of the brush.

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation: I really get aggravated when I cannot find my shade and end up having to buy two separate colors and blend or having to settle on a different foundation. But this fool-proof foundation has Smart-Tone technology that works with your skin color and texture so no more stress for me.

Stila One Step Makeup: This product is for those who do not want to deal with the process of primer, foundation, concealer and powder. This makeup lasts the entire day! The thick cream/mousse formula does feel a bit heavy on your face. You may not be a fan if you prefer lightweight makeup. However, if you want a flawless face that lasts and don't want to apply primer this will definitely do the trick.

RULES TO PERFECT FOUNDATION!!!

  1. Always swatch the foundation before buying and preferably in natural light. Remember to swatch on your face rather than your hand/arm; the color of your face may be different than your hand/arm.
  2. Identify your skin color and tone and choose an exact shade of foundation. Do not go darker or lighter, it will not look good!
  3. Choose foundation according to the coverage you want. If you have great skin and are just looking for foundation to even out your skin use a tinted moisturizer instead.
  4. Always apply on clean and moisturized face.
  5. To achieve the perfect blended look use a clean sponge or brush.
  6. Apply only on problem areas instead of  your entire face. However, you could apply it all over if your looking for even coverage.
  7. Dab it in and never rub or swipe.
  8. Always apply foundation with downward strokes to accommodate your the facial hair.
  9. If you want lipstick to stay longer and give a better color payoff then apply foundation on your lips too. It neutralizes the color of your lips which then gives your lips a closer match to the lipstick.
  10. Set foundation with powder and don't use the puff that comes with the compact. Instead use a fluffy brush. This will make the application smoother and even. Best brush set out there? Sephora! Best brush set on a budget? Morphe!

DIY MINERAL VEIL TRANSLUCENT POWDER!!!

I am not sure if you remember this post or not, but I decided to try one of Cara's DIY's!

Mostly because I was running out of my translucent powder.

So, here is the "recipe"...

1 1/2 Tablespoons of cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon powdered foundation

Stir together and store in a clean, used powder container.

I actually did two different ones... the top one is my tinted one and the bottom is just the cornstarch.

Fact: Makeup can last all day by using cornstarch as makeup protector. Mix it with a bit of foundation and your face stays dry and non greasy all day.

Both work great and saves me some big bucks!

Thanks Cara!
